Blackjack Rules
If you receive an ace and a 10-value card as your first two cards, you have blackjack and win 1.5 times your wager (if you had bet $10, you receive $25). If your total card value is closer to 21 than the dealer's, you win your wagered amount (if you had bet $10, you get $20). If your cards exceed 21 in total value, you "bust" & lose the bet. If you and the dealer have the same card total (17 and up) neither you nor the dealer wins and your bet is returned to you in what's known as a "push." Blackjack always beats a score of 21.
Online blackjack usually follows the standard "Las Vegas Strip" rules, with the following exceptions:
- After each round, used cards are returned to the deck and reshuffled.
- A player cannot split a split hand.
- Only a single card is drawn to split aces.
- A player may double after splitting.
- The dealer shall not check for blackjack in any case.
- If the player doubles & the dealer's first card is of value 11 (Ace), and the dealer gets blackjack, the player loses both his wagers.
Split
If your first two cards are of equal value, you may split them into two separate hands by placing a second wager equal to the original bet. You'll then draw additional cards to each hand. You may draw as many cards as you wish on each split hand, however, if you split two aces, you get only one additional card for each ace. If you receive an ace and a 10-value card in a split hand, it's considered 21 and not blackjack .
Double
If, after you're dealt your first two cards, you believe that the third card will enable you to beat the dealer's hand, you may double your bet. The amount of the wager becomes twice the original (with the difference taken out of your balance), and you're dealt one more card.
Insurance
If the dealer shows an ace in his/her initial hand, you're given an opportunity to insure your wager against the dealer having blackjack . If you take insurance, an amount equal to half your original wager is placed separately on the table. If the dealer does have blackjack, you're paid 2 to 1 on your insurance. This way you don't lose your original bet (because you get the 2x half your original bet, as well as the insurance amount back). If the dealer doesn't have blackjack , you lose the insurance amount, even if you wind up losing.
10 Card Charlie
It's theoretically possible for a player to draw ten cards without going bust. In this case the player's hand automatically wins, unless the dealer has blackjack .
