1. Atlantic City woes continue

One of the major gambling centers in the United States, Atlantic City, is still trapped in a spiral of decline that is starting to alarm the industry. The latest figures that have just been released did nothing to help matters, as poor results were yet again revealed.

The results for January showed that it was the 17th consecutive month of decline. The New Jersey-based gambling center revealed that casinos had seen takings of just $294.2 million in January, which is 8.5% down from the same period in 2009.

All this poor performance is understandably starting to worry casino bosses. Indeed, they have to look all the way back to August 2008 to find the last positive month on record. The global recession has certainly left its mark on the industry as a whole and it is anyone’s guess when things will really start to pick up again.

But it is not only the recession that is affecting Atlantic City casinos: also causing concern is the increased competition that has arrived from other nearby states. With this competition it is clear that even when the economy picks up again the casinos will still have a lot of work to do to see a return to happier times.
