1. Betfair releases TV betting application

Betfair has just launched a new betting application for internet-connected TVs that will enable players to put bets on sports events directly from their TV sets. It has been designed to work on TV sets that are already running the Yahoo! TV Widget Engine which allows viewers to interact with TVs and internet content.

Internet-connected TVs are going to become much more popular in the coming years. Of all the flat panel TVs in use in Europe, 15 million of them could have internet connections soon, according to Futuresource Consulting. Betfair wants to increase its presence in this area to make it a leader in the field as the technology becomes increasingly popular.

The technology is based on a modified version of the Konfabulator widget for the PC. It is the first betting application for TVs and was launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sports fans will be able to use it to bet on live events directly through their TV sets.

Simon Miller, the CEO of Betfair TV Ltd., said “the way people interact with their televisions is changing. Our investment in this exciting new platform ensures that Betfair is an integral part of the future of Internet-connected TV.”
