1. New internet-TV betting platform from Betfair

Betfair has just launched what could well turn out to be the future of TV betting. Its new betting application functions on internet-enabled TV sets, combining online gambling with the TV viewing experience. It completely changes the way that people can place bets for live sports events, and may well mark a new direction in sports betting.

It is a very simple application at the moment, consisting of a menu that pops up on the side of the screen. The picture is not affected, meaning the game can be watched whilst the bet is being placed. As it is controlled by nothing more than the remote, it is being seen as the perfect way to attract a new market to sports betting.

Betfair is hoping that there are lots of sports fans who might like the idea of adding another dimension to the game by placing a bet, but who do not want to go to the bookmakers or place a bet online whilst watching the game. This application provides the instant ability to place a bet during live play without interfering with the game.

At the moment users can only place fixed amounts from £2 to £25 to stop it becoming too complicated. It is set to expand the online gambling market considerably, and Betfair has confirmed that the service will itself be expanding over the course of the next few months in time for the World Cup in June.
