Victor Chandler to sponsor two opposing football teams

Bookmaker Victor Chandler has just announced that it will be sponsoring a Championship football team in the UK, West Bromwich Albion, in its match on Friday 8 January. This will be a one-match sponsorship arrangement, and what’s more strange is that the team West Bromwich Albion will be playing, Nottingham Forest, is also sported by Victor Chandler, providing maximum exposure for the gambling operator.

This will be a great coup for Victor Chandler, as the sponsorship and the surrounding publicity will provide it a great amount of exposure. However, it left the chairman of the group with a dilemma in who he predicted would win, and in the end he said “I'll have to sit on the fence and predict a draw.”

The deal has been made possible because West Bromwich Albion currently does not have a sponsor. It was without a sponsor for last season and this season, and is arranging single-game sponsorship deals until something more permanent can be arranged. This would not be possible in the Premier League, but it is possible in the Championship.

Gibraltar-based Victor Chandler is the second company to sponsor the football team for just one match, following Blue Square. The match will be shown on Sky Sports if the snowy conditions do not force it to be postponed.
