Code of Conduct for Online Casinos Under Development
In an effort to advocate for the online gambling community, several organizations are working on a code of conduct to protect customers of online casinos. First introduced in October, the International Responsible Gambling Code of Conduct is being pushed by such high profile groups as eCOGRA (eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance), the IGC (Interactive Gaming Council), and the EGBA (European Gaming and Betting Association.)
With many governments around the world having imposed bans against online gambling, this code gives supporters of online casinos some real ammunition to advocate for the legalization and regulation of the industry. This code of conduct would create minimum standards and measures to be enforced internationally, protecting the rights of gamblers while promoting responsible playing.
The director of one supporting organization states: "We hope that the adoption of this Code will better enable the gambling public to make informed decisions with regards to their remote gambling participation, secure in the knowledge that operators are required by condition of license to protect the welfare and enjoyment of their customers."
Some of the issues addressed in the code include underage gambling, player protection, responsible online gambling, problem gambling and addiction, responsible advertising by online casinos, and more. This code would be welcome in countries like the United States where an effective ban exists on online gambling. Many elected officials are against the industry because of problems like underage gambling, one issue that would be addressed in the code.
