      Anybody wanna bet how much people are really gambling? Well, if the most recent reports are any indication, there is probably loads more wagering going down amongst gamblers globally than anyone even imagined - aside from those casino operators and sports books on the receiving ends, of course.


      But just how much money is flowing between players and gambling establishments? As always, our meticulous research staff has done their homework and the numbers are indeed remarkable. In fact, believe it or not:


      Seven out of 10 American adults placed a bet in one form or another last year.

      According to the American National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), 35 percent of male college students placed at least one bet on a sports event last year.

      An estimated grand total of $600 billion was wagered worldwide last year.

      The online betting biz generated nearly 15 billion dollars in revenue in 2006.

      Betting on sports via the Internet is said to account for five times the number of sports bets placed in Las Vegas.

      The volume of unlawful sports bets carried out via local bookies is believed to be more than 30 times that of the number of sports wagers placed legally in all of Nevada.

      Over 20 gaming firms are presently trading on non-American stock markets.

      The world's largest online poker site (Partypoker.com) has a market value of nearly 9 billion dollars.

      The biggest sports betting organization (Ladbrokes plc) has a market value of over $5 billion.

      Las Vegas-based MGM-Mirage has openly lobbied to permit American gaming companies to participate in online gambling.

      There are approximately 85 jurisdictions around the globe currently regulating online gambling.

      There are an estimated 2,300 gambling websites worldwide.

      Though still somewhat difficult to forecast due to its relatively recent emergence onto the gambling scene, the mobile gaming sector is expected to hit the 8 billion dollar mark by 2010.

      14 million Europeans logged on to online gambling sites in February 2005, representing a 45 percent increase from 2004.

      $4 million is wagered daily on Internet poker in the UK.

      According to Britain's "GamCare Services Report 2005" - 12% of their clients indicated online gambling as their main mode of gambling; a drop of 16 percent from 2004.

      According to the latest British Gambling Prevalence Study, in June ‘07, an average of 8.6 percent of respondents claimed they had engaged in at least one type of remote gambling during the preceding month. Over the course of this month, more male respondents (11.3 percent) had wagered online than females (6.1 percent).
