Frank Frank About Online Gaming Position
Online gaming industry analysts are warning proponents of the popular pastime not to get too excited over the prospect of a change in policy as it may be some time before the newly elected Democrats attempt to reverse the recently passed Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act. Of the few Democrats considered friendly to the gaming sector, one is outspoken liberal Barney Frank, the Massachusetts congressman who voted against the act prohibiting online gaming and who is also slated to chair the Financial Services Committee.
In an attempt to thwart the new law's passage prior to its enactment, Internet poker players forwarded hundreds of emails and letters to members of Congress restating their opposition to the bill. Hundreds, unfortunately, proved nothing more than a weak hand. Though Internet gamblers are rapidly increasing in number, they still lack the massive clout enjoyed by their conservative counterparts to affect legislation.
