Probably the old saying "if you can't beat them then join them" is most applicable when it comes to the online casino stance taking place in Germany.
Germany has by law prohibited online gambling for several years but these laws have not been a deterrent for the over 2 million avid internet gambling German population. The treaty that holds the anti gambling regulations in place is due to expire in 2011.
It would seem that those in power are not all that keen on renewing the treaty, however that does not mean that it is not in effect now or during the year 2010. There have been some keen observations made on the world on online gambling revenue as it pertains to Germany. Many believe that the abolishment of the current treaty and instilling some regulations will enhance the finances of the country from the gaming venue.
Another aspect that has been brought to the forefront regarding the treaty is that it is not effective anyway. By getting rid of the treaty it would also put the contentions to rest regarding the European Union. This is in reference to the EU rules of open markets on services with includes the online casinos.
The current stance that Germany now holds on internet gaming could actually lead to accusations of infringement. This is because it has shown that a monopoly such as the one found here offers no public protection and is ineffective in its mandate.
