Not only are online roulette tournaments fast becoming "the latest craze" in casino gaming fun, they're also proving to be a great way for wannabe roulette players to get in on some of the amazing action... not to mention the amazing WINNINGS! And while roulette tournaments may be somewhat new to
online casinos - and may differ with respect to rules from venue to venue - the game itself is basically played along the same lines as regular roulette, be it in land-based or online casinos.
What to look for in a tournament
The criteria one should consider when deciding on which online roulette tournament to play and wager your hard-earned money at include the following: the tournament date, starting and ending times, entry fee, minimum and maximum bets, and, of course, the prizes. In addition to first place prizes, online casinos also often offer multiple second and third-place prizes.
How to win
The goal in an online roulette tournament is to finish with more chips than all of the other players in the competition. Depending on the casino or tournament, participants are generally free to stop playing at any time during play, and their remaining chips are credited towards their final score. Winning prizes vary from casino to casino, as well as the number of prizes. For instance, some tournaments offer 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place prizes.
Joining a tournament
To join an online roulette tournament you must pay what's known as a qualification entry fee, or "buy-in." This fee typically ranges between $5 and $10. Of course, no two tournaments are alike and therefore you can expect the buy-in amounts to vary.
With your buy-in you are awarded a certain number of chips to compete with. How man chips you are allocated also depends on the tournament, though the amount is generally around 1000 times the value of the buy-in. For example, with a $5 entry fee you can expect to get $5000 worth chips. Every player in a tournament pays the same entry fee and is given the same number of chips to start playing with.
Min & max bets
Each player in a roulette tournament is also obligated to wager between predetermined minimum and maximum bet sizes. For instance, to compete in a particular event, you may be required to bet at least 20 cents, but no more than say $20.
Qualifying for a final round
In order to be eligible to play in the final round of a tournament, players are obligated to play a minimum number of rounds at multiplayer tables which may comprise perhaps as many as 20 other players. The best players from these rounds then compete in the final round.
Keeping track
A leaderboard is posted alongside the competition so that players can check their rank and performance in the qualifying rounds, as well as the final.
