Leading Online Casino Companies Preparing to Play Next Hand
In reference to the US's recent legislation further hampering the flow of bets placed by American residents, Nigel Payne, CEO of online gaming company Sportingbet, has been quoted as saying the UK government and European Union should support European organizations in the face of the US's "absurd protectionism."
Last Friday Congress passed a bill outlawing credit card and money transfer businesses from accepting payments to gaming Web sites, causing shares to nosedive.
Mitch Garber, chief of Internet poker leader PartyGaming, and Gigi Levy, 888 Holdings' helmsman, both agree that the new US law will cause the industry to consolidate its efforts in combating the legislation.
Levy expects mergers will occur first between Internet operators, and Garber announced that PartyGaming will be sucking up the smaller organizations that risk failing as a result of the new law. Casinos like Harrah's and MGM Mirage will also be picking up the scraps.
