MGM Mirage Knocks Anti-Online Gambling Bill “Senseless”
Lanni is presently a board member of the American Gaming Association. The AGA is said to be rendering a decision in December as to whether or not conduct a legislation study of online gaming.
The plan includes studying the United Kingdom's efforts to regulate gambling over the Internet, which is slated to begin in the coming year.
Peter Dean, chairman of the UK's Gaming Commission and gaming conference speaker, announced Britain's intent on being second to none in regulating online gambling. Mr. Dean also added that he "firmly believes that the way forward is to regulate, rather than prohibit."
Analysts believe the newly elected Democratic leadership in the U.S. Congress could create the opportunity to explore legislating and regulating online gaming. The new law prohibits financial institutions such as banks, credit card and online payment companies from processing payments to online gambling firms.
