UK Moving Forward with New Online Gambling Regulations
The Commission is expected to gain new and significant legal authority to supervise the industry as well as prosecute illegal gambling operators. It shall also counsel central and local governments on gambling-related issues.
According to a statement released by Peter Dean, chairman of the Commission, Britain's gambling laws are going through changes and beginning in September next year all gaming companies will require licenses by the Gambling Commission.
The rules that operators will be obligated to follow are designed to meet the Commission's three licensing objectives: a) ensuring crime-free gambling, b) maintaining fair and open gambling, and c) protecting minors and other vulnerable individuals.
The Commission will have the authority to criminally prosecute companies failing to uphold its standards and may impose unlimited penalties on operators breaching their licensing terms.
