Where does the word ‘casino' come from?

The word casino comes from the Italian word ‘casa,' which originally referred to a country house. Later, the Italians expanded on the word to be used in reference to places used for social gatherings and activities like dancing, listening to music, and gambling. Gambling soon achieved precedence over the other pastimes and eventually the word casino came to refer exclusively to gambling establishments.
