World’s Wackiest Wagers Ever Placed - Part 2

Following are some more of the most off-beat gambles our world has ever known:

When Christian evangelist Oral Roberts announced to a TV audience in 1987 that God told him he must raise 8 million dollars by March if he wanted to avoid his imminent death, Gene Maday, the late owner of Little Caesars tried to list a price on whether or not the Oral one would actually succeed and raise the money.

"I'd have made the over/under line at 4.6 million dollars," Maday was reported to have stated after gaming authorities annulled the bet and threw the not-so-good book at him. Maday went on to declare, "We'd book anything if the gaming board would let us."

Roberts ended up raising $9.1 million and isn't dead yet.

A fifty-eight-year-old California resident is said to have once accepted 10,000 to 1 odds that he could father a child by ‘normal means' at the ripe old age of 100. (The truth is, we don't know what the end result was but we all hope the old fugger managed to at least rise to the occasion.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A way-out-there Oregon man and wife accepted 5,000 to 1 odds that either the British or US government would acknowledge the existence of an extra-terrestrial spacecraft in the Earth's atmosphere before the end of the millennium. Result? No aliens, no winnings.

British bookies have posted 1,000 to 1 odds that golfer Tiger Woods will someday become president of the U.S., and 5,000 to 1 odds that former president Bill Clinton & Monica Lewinsky will tie the naughty. (Billion to 1 odds the 'affair' will take place in a synagogue).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The odds that the FBI will verify that Elvis is still living are 500 to 1 (not bad). The FBI's odds of confirming that Michael & his alleged sister LaToya Jackson are in fact the same person are also 500 to 1.

India's bookmakers are having their biggest pre-monsoon season ever with wagers raining down from all over the country predicting when the rains will reach Mumbai as well as how much rain will fall. So far bookmakers have accepted wagers worth US $900 million. The longing for the annual monsoon, along with speculation of when the rains will fall is a common topic of conversation as Indians sweat through daily temperatures soaring well over 40 degrees Celsius.

Still, perhaps the weirdest wager of all was placed by Londoner Matthew Dumbrell who, with odds of 1 million to 1, bet that the world would end before the year 2,000. According to our research staff's latest report, the world has not ended.
